RETAIL EYE - TRENDS IN RETAIL AND POS
Every month we capture what is happening in retail – understanding key themes and trends for POS. This snapshot guide helps to bring the high street to your desk monthly.
FOOTFALL
The UK experienced a 3.3% year-on-year decline in retail footfall in July 2024, continuing a downward trend from the decline of 2.3% in the previous month, according to the British Retail Consortium (BRC)-Sensormatic IQ. This is the twelfth consecutive month the BRC have reported a decline, with people choosing to spend on holidays and leisure activities rather than shopping. The BRC also highlighted that election week saw particularly weak footfall, as political electioneering peaked, creating uncertainty for many consumers.
SUMMER OF SPORT
With July seeing the Euros final, Wimbledon and the start of the Olympics, retailers and brands created campaigns to mark the occasions and generate excitement in store.
