RETAIL EYE - TRENDS IN RETAIL AND POS
Every month we capture what is happening in retail – understanding key themes and trends for POS. This snapshot guide helps to bring the high street to your desk monthly.
FOOTFALL
Overall, UK retail footfall saw a marginal rise of 0.2% in February 2025 compared to the same month of 2024, according to data from the British Retail Consortium-Sensormatic. This represents a slowdown from the 6.6% increase observed in January. From 2 February to 1 March 2025, retail foot traffic enjoyed an increase for the second month in a row, with retail parks maintaining their lead as the most visited shopping destinations.
VALENTINE’S DAY
Valentine’s Day campaigns were highly visible across the high street as retailers and brands encouraged shoppers to treat their loved ones. Around 40 million people in the UK celebrate Valentine’s Day and the estimated spending on the occasion in 2024 was £2.1 billion.* 25 million Valentine’s cards are sent and (most) disposed of in the UK annually.**
