RETAIL EYE - TRENDS IN RETAIL AND POS

Every month we capture what is happening in retail – understanding key themes and trends for POS.  This snapshot guide helps to bring the high street to your desk monthly.

FOOTFALL

Footfall across retail dropped in April, as poor weather and an earlier run-up to Easter had a negative effect. Total UK shopper visitors fell 7.2% in April, down from a 1.3% decline in March, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) reported. However, cancelling out the calendar change of Easter this year, the BRC reported combined March and April figures for 2024 compared with the combined March and  April figures for 2023 showed total UK retail footfall was down 4.2%. year-on-year.

SPRING

Whilst the weather did not perhaps get the Spring memo in April, retailers were feeling more optimistic with their seasonal schemes. Shoppers were also encouraged to get their gardens ready for warmer weather ahead.
