RETAIL EYE - TRENDS IN RETAIL AND POS

Every month, we capture what is happening in retail – understanding key themes and trends for POS.  This snapshot guide helps to bring the high street to your desk monthly.

FOOTFALL

The record heatwave in June deterred many shoppers from the high street. Total UK footfall decreased by 3.4% in June year-over-year, down from -2.6% in May.*

FATHER’S DAY

According to The Grocer, Father’s Day spending was set to reach £1.3bn in 2026. Savvy Marketing predicted growth of 3%, marking the slowest growth rate of any major calendar event this year so far. As Father’s Day coincided with the World Cup this year, activations are perhaps slightly overshadowed by World Cup activity in store.

WORLD CUP

The World Cup is expected to provide a £2.9bn boost, with grocery sales forecast to reach £1.95bn.** Late match times mean 22.6 million people will spend money on food and drink while watching at home.** 1.5 million people are planning to spend a combined £325.3m on electrical items such as a new TV.**
