RETAIL EYE - TRENDS IN RETAIL AND POS

FOOTFALL

Total UK footfall rose 2.4% year on year in March, reversing the 4.7% decline recorded in February.* However, the majority of Easter spend fell within March’s reporting window this year, whereas in 2025 it landed in April, giving this year’s figures an artificial lift and potentially providing a harder comparison for April’s figures.

EASTER

According to Grocery Gazette, Easter retail sales were forecast to climb 14% year on year to £1.6bn in 2026,  as shoppers balance value with a willingness to spend more on seasonal treats. Based on a survey of 1,000 UK consumers, 70% were planning to celebrate Easter this year.** Despite ongoing caution around household budgets, half of those surveyed expect to spend more than they did in 2025.**
